JASON GOLDIE

ABOUT ME
I am a senior at Arizona State University majoring in Sports Journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I grew up in Palo Alto, California, where I became an avid fan of all of the Bay Area's local athletics. My lifelong love for sports strongly influenced my decision to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. Beginning in high school, I became involved in journalism by participating in my school's live daily news broadcast, winning several regional and national journalism awards. I expanded my broadcasting experience into PA announcing and live streaming before coming to Arizona State University.

At ASU, I interned twice for the Varsity Media Foundation, doing live sports play-by-play, color analysis and camera work for numerous high school, college and club sports broadcasts. Additionally, I created weekly sports audio and video segments for the radio and halftime shows and cohosted the live radio show, The Varsity Sports Show. Throughout my time at ASU, I have been involved in many clubs, including Inferno Intel, Blaze Radio, Walter Cronkite Sports Network and the Stream Team.
Most recently, I was a sports broadcast reporter and anchor for Cronkite News on Arizona PBS, a professional program at ASU. I was responsible for curating sports content for a 30-minute statewide news television program. I pitched ideas, conducted interviews, filmed footage, and edited video for the sports report. I was also a studio anchor for sports, Arizona and national news.
Ultimately, I hope to become a studio talent, video segment producer, play-by-play announcer, and/or PA announcer for a major sports network or team. I also enjoy snow skiing and traveling, and I love animals.

I have autism spectrum disorder, which gives me unique talents and a different perspective that I use to improve my broadcasting abilities, such as my strong memory, linear thinking, and unwavering teleprompter skills. I understand the challenges that come with a disability, and I try to incorporate that into my journalism by championing those who are unique and have overcome their own adversities. I also believe that, historically, neurodiverse people like me have been undervalued by society, and I wish to become an advocate for the neurodiverse population and share with the world some of the incredible and unexpected gifts and capabilities of people with autism and other neurodiversities.
